What is cheaper to keep and more fun a ferret or chinchilla?
I know both ferrets and chinchillas are expensive but a ferret can get really lonely so is it better to get a chinchilla if I only want one. I wanted a pet I can play with for ages and something that is quite lively. Which is better a Chinchilla or a ferret? And which one is more expensive to keep?

Okay so, I wanted a chinchilla for about ehhh….2 years. My parents would not let me get one!! I was so upset…anyway i researched them forever to get all the facts. Chinchillas arent very social animals they dont really like to be held either. You have to be extremely careful they have a sensitive stomach and they have very fragile bones. They are also nocturnal. Say your chinchilla jumped down and broke his leg you have to take him to an exotic pet vet. That can be EXTREMELY expensive. Around $500 to $600. I also added up the cost of everything including:Cage, chinchilla, water bottle, food, bedding, dust, dust bath house, and a few little toys and stuff it was around $400. So if u decide to get a chinchilla please do research 1st. they can live as many as 20 or 25 years thats a HUGE comitment!!! I hope i helped!!!!
i think a ferret would be more fun not sure which would be cheper though
Guinea Pigs are really fun and about the same cost as a hamster. I had one for about 4 years and then it died. They are very loyal and friendly and they love to play. It never bit me or anyone else. And it is definitely cheaper than a chinchilla and ferret!
I would think a ferret would be more fun because they are active during the day and possible cheaper, chinchillas are really lovley dont get me wrong but they are not very active durning the day they are nocturnal,
I not agreee!!!
yes, i am
ferrets are much more expensive. their vet bills are very high. my ferret has had no med problems but just on check ups and regular shots we’ve spent hundreds…our chinchilla weve spent none on vets. another thing is chinchillas dont ever get fleas and dont smell. there poop is a much easier clean up too. BUT ferrets are more playful and hyper while chinchillas are playful they dont have the same "kittenish" feel you get from a ferret. but yes if you only want one animal a chinchilla is the one to get. they dont need the campanionship a ferret needs with another animal. a chinchilla doesnt need out for 3 hours a day either. i personally perfer a ferret, but you seem like a chinchilla =]
What Missy said is good information but I’ll add to it.
Chinchilla: Chins are good if you like to watch animals at play, like petting very soft fuzzy critters, slightly cheaper than ferrets because you can’t find vets for them usually. *cry* They have low odor compared to other rodents and cant get flees or parasites you can’t develop and allergy to them, although u can become allergic to the dust or bedding if you are prone to such things. (I use the paper bedding because I’m allergic to woods). Contrary to what someone said both ferrets and chinchillas get lonely if u only have one. But if you play with the chinchilla a few hours a day it will make up for only having one. They are more nervous creatures and most don’t play with you just use you as a jungle gym (there are exceptions). If you want one that can be held in your lap you will have to shop a long time and be very picky with the chins personality.
Ferret: Strong odor, they play with you like a kitten would so I would say they are more sociable when tamed than a chin, they have more vet costs but I’d say they can survive a disease better than a chin that gets sick (last one is pure opinion!). They can be fully potty trained and you can keep one single if you give it lots of attention and play with it.
Both: Need a large area that is free of cords and dangerous objects for play time outside the cage, daily attention, lots of money to initially buy them, time and patience to tame/train and both live for a long time if they don’t have a misfortune.
