What costs can I expect upon going to a vet for a 12 week himalayan kitten only dewormed?
My himalayan kitten is 12 weeks old and has only been dewormed. A male kitten and I want to take him to a vet but want to know more but dont know what I should get done or how much it will cost. I am in Canada/Mississauga also calling around.

If your kitten is a pedigree, then I assume you got him from a reputable source, and feline AIDS or leukemia is not an issue (as it is with a stray animal or an animal from a shelter). But every kitten needs a checkup, in which the vet palpates his tummy and checks his eyes and his mouth and his ears. It’s good to take a fecal sample (a poop in a baggie) to be tested for worm eggs, just to be sure. The basic check-up is usually included in the cost of an office visit. The worm check is extra but well worth the expense.
At 12 weeks the kitten will be ready for his shots. If he is to be indoor-only, he should’t get the leukemia shot, and you should ask for a three-year rabies shot, so he doesn’t have to get another one until he is 3 years old. The shots will be an additional cost and there will be two of them, the rabies and the 3-in-1. You will have to return in a month for his first booster of the 3-in-1, and then you won’t have to bring him in for a full year.
You will want to speak to the vet about having the kitten neutered. At 12 weeks, some people would say he’s ready, but this is a decision you need to make, and you can discuss it with the vet now. With a pedigreed animal, even if you plan on his being indoor-only, it is always best to get a microchip. Cats crawl out windows and vanish into the night. They dart off doors, leap out of carriers, jump out of cars. And if he is microchipped, there is a chance you will get him back should this happen. So you may want to discuss the cost of microchipping your little investment when you discuss neutering.
In the U.S., and I assume in Canada, there are low-cost and free spay-neuter clinics, but there is no low-cost microchip.
I live in NYC, and everything is tends to be pricey. The cost of veterinary care is pretty specific to the area you live in, but in searching for a veterinarian, you really do want to get someone you can trust as well as someone who is affordable. So go for reasonableness of cost and, if you can, for reputation for competence and gentleness. If you bought the cat from a reputable breeder, you may want to contact them and see who they recommend. You may not want to go to him, but you can call and get his rates, etc.
Good luck.
Probably around $100. My kitten’s first visit was at least $80
about $120, for first shots and exam.
A kitten certainly needs some vaccinations. Usually it is the cost of an office visit and exam, plus the cost of the vaccine.
Sometimes there is pet store in my area of AZ. that have low-cost programs for the first shots. It is a big truck that comes to the store locations on a certain day of the month. You might want to call the vet also. They might know of one of these places. Oh ya maybe the dog pound? If I had to guess it would be like everyone else.. around $80 to $100. at the vets. $20 to $35 at the Mobile ones.
