I have a kitten for adoption and everyone gets mad when I say the adoption fee is 40 dollars. Well I dont want to just give it away because I want someone to feel like the animal had value so they wont throw it outside or give it away again. Am I being unreasonable?

I think that an adoption fee is a good idea. I mean I wouldnt want the kitten to go to just anyone and if they can put up the fee then hopefully they are fit to afford a pet.
i think the fee is a good idea…possibly lower it $5….at the SPCA it costs like $100 so really these people are getting a bargain
An adoption fee is a necessity. Its the best way to weed out the people who aren’t committed to paying all the assorted costs associated with owning a pet. If they aren’t willing to pay a small fee of $40, do you really think the kitten will get fixed/vet care? Keep asking for the fee, you will find someone who actually cares eventually.
no ur not being unreanable. if some people think that $40 is to much to spend to get the cat, there probaly not going to take the best care of it. (vet fees, toys, food, etc.) also at the humane socity the cats are $100 and people buy them still so keep on waiting for the right person to get the kitten.
My kitten costed 45 dollars from the animal shelter.
Though, she was really only 15, because the cost included a 30 dollar discount on spaying.
Are you having the kitten vaccinated or spayed or neutered? Then a fee could be justified to cover vet costs. But I think for a private individual it is not necessarily a good thing. The SPCA or shelters ask for fees because these fees help them to survive. A private person would just be selling the kitten.
I would urge you also to get the mama cat fixed.
For me I just rescue animals. I have owned 3 dogs and 7 cats throughout my lifetime. I have never paid for one nor do I think I ever will just because there are so many animals that need a home that are running around loose after being abandoned. I find them, get them their shots, get them fixed, keep up with vet visits and of course love them!
With that said, I think the fee/cost is a good idea but there are some people out there who just don’t think its worth it to pay. Ignore those people.
If asking for an adoption fee you could always offer it back when they showed you proof that they had taken the kitten to the vet for a check-up and shots.
Adoption fees are standard now. You don’t want to give it to someone who will feed it to their python as free food, or who will use it to train pit bulls to kill. Stick with the adoption fee, tell them it covers the vet care the kitten already got.
