How do you know when a kitten is ready for adoption?
I have 6 kittens. They where dumped on me by a neighbor. So I don’t know their age. They eat, use the cat litter box on their own. But they are still nursing. A freind of mine brought over a freind of his who wants a cat.
I told let me keep them for 2 more weeks, then they will be ready. Or should I wait
Longer by a week? I have had kittens before but, it been over 10 years. So I don’t know.
I want to keep them, but I can’t aford to.
I can take care of the kitten’s & the mother for now it just can’t keep them I have 5 other cats. Plus I take care of several stay cats along with my next door neghbor.Thats what I ment by I can’t afford to keep them. I have a vet that runs a free adoption program, if I can’t find a home for them on my own.

The best way to tell is to weigh your kittens. If they are 2 pounds or over then they are ready to go to their new home!! Also make sure they are eating well.
If their eating and drinking on their own more than suckling then they are ready to go.Please have them all altered……
Typically they can be safely taken off nursing at 6 to 8 weeks. Most adoption centers let you pick up the kitten at 8 weeks, so it’s best to use those guidelines.
If they are still nursing, they are not ready for adoption unless the people adopting know how to nurse… UNLESS the momma is at your house also.. then the kittens should stay with the momma. If you think they are too young to be adopted but really cannot afford to keep them, try surrendering them to your local shelter. Also, pet stores will take in free kittens so that they can sell them for a profit… But I would definitely try the shelter first. The shelter will give them any shots they need and have them dewormed and spayed/neutered.
8 weeks is the minimum age for adoption. Nursing doesn’t tell you much – they will nurse from their mother for a long time – I just trapped some stray kittens and a mom to be rehomed – the kittens were 16 weeks old and still nursing. Are they eating solid food?
I think your two weeks will probably be about right.
about 9 weeks is the key age. I know you dont know their age but you know how long you’ve had them so go by that. If they eat and drink water and potty without mommy cats help then they can go. You did a great thing taking care of mommy and kitties
good luck finding homes.
you should take them to the veternarian first !
