How do I keep my chinchilla from kicking bedding out of the model 142 Ferret Nation cage?
I bought a huge ferret nation cage for my chinchilla, but the pan is so shallow that everything gets kicked out. It gets so messy. I don’t want to use plexiglass because he will most likely chew it. Any suggestions?

Most people order deeper metal pans, rather than the flimsy plastic pan that comes with the FN. A lot of people order them from Bass http://www.bassequipment.com/default.aspx. They do custom orders, so you just need to call them and give the size of the pan (they probably already have it on file from so many people switching over) and tell them how deep you want it. It seems like most people go 4 inches deep. That still won’t keep all of the shavings in, but you can also order cage guards from Bass as well. They go above the pan, around the four sides of the cage another 4 inches or so. Between the two, they are pretty effective in keeping the shavings in.
Other people, as suggested, use fleece liners which eliminates the shavings mess, but does nothing for the poop. You also have to change it much more frequently or it will stink.

hmm…Get a Chinchilla Cage.
Do you have access to an old Super Pet cage bottom? They fit right in there above the black pan. If you don’t, call a ferret rescue near you – they will have one they can sell you for cheap. I use that as my litterbox in my ferret nation.
Put some wood around the outside. You can cover it with stick on tiles so it is easy to clean. Cardboard is also cheap and safe is chewed. You can use Zip ties to attach it to the cage.
I have the same cage. and i keep a chin in it,
I use fleece as my bedding. and it is awesome. She don’t chew on it. and it is easy to clean. Baking soda gets the smell out and it lookd really good too. shes a gray chinchilla, and i have her cage in all pink of different shades and styles.
Hope this helps.
